Clodius Albinus

An African by birth, Clodius Albinus had a distinguished military career and was made governor of Britain. Upon the death of Pertinax Septimius Severus made him Caesar. In 195 A.D., after consolidating his position, Septimius declared Clodius a public enemy and invaded his territory. In response, Clodius assumed the purple, but he was ultimately defeated and committed suicide.
